App Function & Application

How to use the app?

Launch and exit the app:

The app can be started via the app icon. Depending on the smartphone, it can also be started via special keys or SOS buttons. It is also possible to access the Uepaa app directly via lockscreen widgets.

Operating Status Check:

We recommend performing a brief operating status check before each working day. At the push of a button, it can be confirmed that all relevant functions for monitoring and alarming are working properly.

Switch the dead man function on and off:

After that, it is only necessary to activate the appropriate dead man function for static or dynamic work. If the solo work is finished, it is of course necessary to deactivate the deadman function in the same way.

Background Usage:

After the dead man function has been activated, the app can be moved to the background. All processes that use the battery more intensively, such as GPS tracking, immediately go into standby mode. The battery of your employees is relieved to the maximum - but the app remains ready at all times.

What are the alarm types?

Manual alarm

Around the clock, our multilingual, IQnet and SQS certified 24/7 emergency call center is on standby for your employees. The qualification of the recall, the in-house escalation and the summoning of the nearest rescue partners is our daily business. ‍Ifthe employee is still able to trigger an alarm himself, he can do so via the emergency call button in the app. Depending on the smartphone type, SOS hardware buttons or lockscreen widgets also facilitate quick alarm triggering.

Automatic alarm

The app then alerts when the employee can no longer. To do this, Uepaa uses smartphone sensor technology, timer functions and the clever integration of the 24/7 emergency call center. Whether static work at the desk or active work in motion - an accident is quickly detected and the alarm is automatically triggered.

First responder alert

Users in the vicinity of an alarm are identified and called out as first responders within seconds. Because sometimes every minute counts. This is an automatic alarm function that only exists with Uepaa. Users of the Uepaa app can therefore not only trigger a companion alarm, but are also always potential first responders.

How does the app detect an accident?

Standstill detection:

Uepaa analyzes the employee's movements via the smartphone's sensors. If Uepaa detects motionlessness, the "pre-alarm" becomes active. If there is no reaction from the employee, the alarm is triggered.

Regular check:

If the regular check is activated, the app reports in the defined interval and requests an acknowledgement via the "pre-alarm". If the employee does not respond, the alarm is triggered.

One-time time alarm:

If the time alarm is activated, a set time can be selected in advance, after which an alarm is automatically sent. This alarm is transmitted directly to the Uepaa emergency call center when it is set. If the alarm is not deactivated by the employee, the alarm is triggered by the emergency call center.

Can the app be used without reception?

Yes - with the one-time check:

In general, the Uepaa app requires an active Internet connection. The operating status continuously monitors the coverage and informs the user as soon as there is no more network coverage. To be protected outside the network as well, the "One-time check" can alternatively be activated in such cases. Of course, this requires going back to a place with an Internet connection to activate this alarm type.

The one-time check is transmitted directly to our emergency call center. If the set time is exceeded and the set alarm is not deactivated again, the 24/7 emergency call center triggers the alarm chain.

If it is not just temporary work, but work is carried out in these zones without reception over a longer period of time, then retrofitting with GSM or WiFi is recommended. This is described in the following section.

Can the app be used indoors?

Securely connected with Wifi:

Everything that connects the smartphone to the Internet, also connects the Uepaa app to the Uepaa emergency call center. Whether you work here with GSM repeaters or with Wifi does not matter for the use of the app. Thanks to WiFi calling, the qualification calls of our emergency call center also reach your employees

Safely located with indoor tracking (BLE Beacons):

First responders as well as rescue forces need more precise information on the position of the casualty. In buildings, GPS positioning is often too inaccurate and valuable time is lost, especially in multi-story buildings or underground facilities. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons provide the missing accuracy and pinpoint assistance. Contact us, we are happy to help.

Found quickly and safely via the alarm process:

Valuable information is stored in the respective alarm process of the employee, which enables fast and safe location. Typical work locations, floors or room numbers can be stored as well as special hazards in the area of the workplace.

Quickly found with manual localization (current location):

When working on a customer site, as is often the case with field service technicians, the so-called daily emergency contact helps. In addition to the contact, the employee can also give more precise information about the location. For example, "elevator shaft" or "2nd basement control box". Using the daily emergency contact and this additional information, the search is also fast and efficient on customer sites.

Effective near-field search using the alarm tone:

All those involved can access geo-localization, indoor positioning and the current location via the central situation picture (online web console). In addition, the Uepaa app offers acoustic near-field localization by means of a signal tone, which enables emergency services to quickly locate devices as soon as they are on site.

Can the app be used during free time?

Yes, absolutely. Because in Switzerland, around 64,000 people suffer a tripping or falling accident at work every year. That's a quarter of all occupational accidents. If accidents in everyday life (leisure time without sports accidents) are added, the number even rises to around 135,000 people.

That's why the Uepaa app is designed not only for business use, but also for private use. We even explicitly recommend that it be used during leisure time as well. Confidence in the app increases, which also helps its operational use.

As a company, you benefit from lower non-occupational accident costs - and can even offer your employees an additional benefit, at no extra cost.

Does the app warn when the network or GPS is missing?

The operating status warns when the environment changes:

The app alerts the user about the operating status, for example, if the internet connection to the 24/7 emergency call center is lost, GPS tracking is insufficient or the battery charge drops below 20%.

The operating status warns when smartphone settings are missing:

The app also warns the user via the operating status if device settings restrict the functions of the Uepaa app.

Ongoing and manual verification:

Of course, this system monitoring always runs in the background. At the push of a button, it is also possible to manually confirm that all relevant functions for monitoring and alarming are working properly.

First aider function

Why is the first responder function so important?

Alone is rarely really alone:

Alone in the workshop does not necessarily mean alone in the company. The companion assistance of the Uepaa app penetrates soundproof walls and also reaches the person in the other building. Or bridges distances during teamwork in extensive terrain. In this way, the time until professional help arrives can be used to the benefit of the person involved in the accident.

Collective protection from the Uepaa Cloud:

Well over 120,000 Uepaa App users contribute to the fact that first responder protection is becoming increasingly close-knit. When you use the Uepaa app, you automatically become part of an overarching first responder network instead of an isolated solution.

How far does the first responder function extend?

The first-responder alert has a range of two kilometers and is deliberately chosen so that only first responders who can also quickly get to the person involved in the accident are activated and involved.

Is the first responder function internal to the company?

No. In an emergency, there should be no company boundaries. The Uepaa app's first responder function identifies all users in the vicinity who can help - regardless of company affiliation.

Alarm chain

How does the alarm chain work?

1 - Pre-alarm on smartphone:

When using the Uepaa app, the pre-alarm is a key step. For example, when the user has to acknowledge a regular check. The employees always have 5 minutes to acknowledge these pre-alarms.

2 - Recall qualification:

If the pre-alarm remains unconfirmed, the app transmits the alarm to the 24/7 Uepaa emergency call center. The recall qualification gives us the certainty that it is not a false alarm after all. False alarms can be clarified and closed by 85% via the callback qualification.

3 - Internal company escalation:

For the remaining 15% of alarms, we switch to in-house escalation. Here, our emergency call center experts support you in alarm assessment and intervention. This is supported by an alarm dashboard to which we grant you temporary access. Nothing is left to chance - login problems do not exist.

4 - Intervention:

If we jointly come to the conclusion that there is a possible personal emergency, then things move quickly. Calling in the nearest rescue partners is our daily business. The nearest rescue partner is also automatically called in if the company's internal escalation cannot take place (subject to contractual authorization).

Uepaa alarm chain - level 1-4
Who authorizes the rescue operation?

In case of manual alerting of the employees:

In case of volitional alarm and existing telephone contact, the employee always has the possibility to express direct instructions for rescue.

In case of automatic alarm the company:

In the case of an at-will alarm, it is the escalation levels that authorize the rescue operation. The nearest rescue partner is only automatically summoned if the in-house escalation fails and if a contractual authorization exists.

How do rescue workers get into our company?

Access codes / key boxes:

With the Uepaa app, you have the option of integrating your existing access concept. Whether locking systems with codes or emergency key boxes, it does not matter. In the event of an alarm, we instruct the emergency services on how to gain access.

Local fire departments or own briefing:

Many of our customers already have rescue concepts with local fire department organizations or their own control centers that take care of briefing the rescue forces in parallel. Such processes can also be stored in the alarm chain.

How do rescue workers find the casualty?

If an intervention occurs, we grant the involved rescue parties access to a rescue web dashboard. This temporary access is only active as long as the intervention is ongoing. This provides access to all rescue-relevant information up to the ambulance and the response team. Central to the location on the company premises are:

- GPS location: current location, which building etc.

- Deposited alarm chain: additional information such as departments, floors, etc.

- Indoor BLE Location Information: The last passed or currently visible BLE beacon.

Last but not least, an extremely robust and simple search method takes effect:

- Acoustic near-field localization: The victim is localized within seconds via the shrill signal tone of the Uepaa app.

Who bears the costs of a rescue operation?

The blue light intervention and rescue costs are always at the expense of the company. The authorization for this is always obtained in consultation with the company representatives involved during the company escalation. The nearest rescue service will only be called out automatically if the internal company escalation fails and if there is a contractual authorization.

Is the alarm chain multilingual?

English, German, French and Italian:

The Uepaa app is available in English, German, French and Italian and thus optimally supports your employees in its use. Of course, this applies to the entire rescue chain.

The language in the alarm chain depends on the app language:

Multilingualism is ensured right through to the alerting functions and rescue chain. According to the language selection in the app, the alert is redirected and received and processed by the corresponding employee in our emergency call center.

Rollout and support

How does the rollout work?

1 - Your data collection > our quality assurance:

When recording the various internal alarm chains, we provide you with proven templates. In it, you enter all necessary internal escalation levels and all mobile numbers of the employees who are to receive the Uepaa app. With our many years of experience, we check and complete the data entry. After final approval, these are transferred to the productive system, tested and released for sharp use.

2 - SMS sending with download link to Uepaa app:

After going live, all new users receive an invitation via SMS to join Uepaa AG's protection. The SMS contains the link to the respective App Store or Google Play Store - depending on whether Apple or Android smartphones.

3 - Online training materials, up to date at any time:

Every new user also gets access to proven online training material. The instructions for installing and configuring the app, the main functions and the alarm chain, as well as valuable tips for daily use make getting started child's play.

Do we receive training?

The app is used by over 120,000 users. Therefore, the handling of the app is self-explanatory. Of course, Uepaa AG is also happy to provide training at your premises - in most cases, this is not absolutely necessary. It is important to anchor the use of the app in the internal processes and work instructions on the subject of working alone.

Remote training:‍

The product launch is rounded off with remote training. Especially for larger equipment, this digital and location-independent training has both financial and practical advantages for you. The search for appointments is simplified, training courses can be held across locations and at the same time. Your day-to-day operations are only minimally burdened, even in the case of large rollouts.

On-site training:

Of course, we also offer on-site training. Please contact us early enough for this, as these usually require some lead time and planning for implementation. On-site training courses are subject to a fee and are not part of the respective product groups.

Train-the-trainer training:

We offer train-the-trainer courses both remotely and on-site. These go into even more detail and support both product launches and follow-up or refresher training (e.g. in the event of staff changes) by your own employees.

How do we manage the licenses?

‍Transferablesubscriptions:

Depending on the product subscription, the licenses are freely transferable. Exits, entries or department changes can be made at any time. This gives you the flexibility to distribute the available licenses optimally among your staff or to transfer them.

Changes via master data sheet:

Here, too, the support of Uepaa AG is at your disposal. Change requests are typically processed within one business day. Since we, as a rescue service provider, vouch for the security of your employees, all mutations go through our quality assurance. You will always receive a counter receipt for the change made and the new data master.

How do we get product support?

There are many ways to contact our support. Directly via the feedback form from the app is certainly the fastest and easiest way. Of course, we can also be reached in the traditional way:

> E-mail to support@uepaa.ch

> Chat with our support

> By phone +41 44 809 6006

Do I need a user agreement?

No, no additional data protection agreements need to be concluded with employees. With the Uepaa app, you use a SaaS service and do not operate the system yourself. Location data cannot be viewed by the employer. So you don't manage sensitive data and there is no need for an additional contractual data protection and usage agreement with your employees.

Technical

Which smartphone types are suitable?

Free choice of smartphones:

Uepaa does not limit you in the choice of cell phones used. Not least because of our cooperation with Swisscom, we are able to test very intensively and guarantee the functions to the maximum.

Explosion-proof Android smartphones:

Explosion-proof devices are particularly robust and meet increased safety requirements. Various manufacturers offer ATEX and IECEX certified devices, for example iSAFE Mobile, Bartec or Astron. As a rule, these devices are based on the Android operating system. Please contact us if you have any questions about the use of such devices.

Restraint with entry-level smartphones:

It should be noted that the variety of very cheap Android devices has increased. As a rule, these devices are equipped with very simple components, show outdated operating systems and the computing power is reduced in favor of battery life. We do not recommend these entry-level devices for the aforementioned reasons.

Which operating systems are supported?

Three to four operating system generation retroactively for iOS and Android:

The Uepaa app runs on smartphones with the Apple iOS and Android operating systems. Every year, both manufacturers bring operating system updates and new programming environments to the market. As a software manufacturer, we are also subject to these update cycles. We can retroactively guarantee software maintenance for three to four operating system generations. Older operating systems usually work without problems, but we can no longer give a guarantee. You can find more detailed information about the currently supported OS versions in the Apple Appstore and Google Play Store.

Android Light versions are not supported:

These operating system versions are so limited that Uepaa unfortunately has to refuse a warranty. We can also not give support on Android Light versions.

Compatible with Skype for Business & MS Teams?

The cell phone number serves as a unique identifier during registration (code delivery via SMS), during each login and in the alarm chain. Of course, the Uepaa app is also prepared for mobile handheld devices without a SIM card, but with a landline number (e.g. via MS Teams or Skype for Business).

How much data volume does it require app?

The required data volume is hardly measurable. The app runs 99% of the time in the background and the transfer of a maximum of 48 location coordinates per day can be neglected.

How much battery does the app need?

As soon as the app is moved to the background, the GPS location query also goes to sleep mode. The battery consumption of our app is checked during OS updates and app adaptations on a wide range of device types. Current consumption values are well below 0.2% of battery power per hour. So, despite the regular location updates, the Uepaa app does not have a significant impact.

Why Uepaa?

What is special about the Uepaa app?

Muture and proven:

With more than 10 years of experience in the market and as application developers, we know how to guarantee that background usage is not suddenly stopped by the operating system, what system redundancy means in the event of an alarm, and how battery consumption always remains in the absolutely necessary minimum range. Very important: The app is also 100% accepted by your employees, does not disturb their workflow and is therefore also used, day after day.

Contractual partner of SUVA since 2020:

Key features of the Uepaa App were developed in collaboration with SUVA. To date, the Uepaa app is the only purely digital deadman solution in the marketplace for safety products sapros of the SUVA.

First responder function (first responder):

The digital first responder function of the Uepaa app is unique in the world. No other solution offers a location-based first responder function in parallel with alerting. With over 120,000 users, the first responder family is growing every week, including in your area.

More than fire-and-forget:

Other, purely app-based solutions only send a message and thus transfer the qualification of alarms and escalation back to the employer. Absences and wage costs result, in the worst case the alarm remains unnoticed. Uepaa works with qualified and certified (IQnet, SQS) alarm centers - no alarm remains unprocessed.

Private added value - reduction of non-operating accident costs:

The Uepaa App not only suitable for business use, but also for private use and designed accordingly. We even recommend that it be used during leisure time as well. Confidence in the app increases, which also helps operational use. As a company, you benefit from lower non-occupational accident costs - and can offer your employees a fringe benefit to boot, at no extra cost.

Maximum warranty:

Uepaa does not limit you in the choice of cell phones used. Not least because of our cooperation with Swisscom, we are able to test very intensively and guarantee the functions to the maximum.

Apple approved rescue app developer:

The long-standing development cooperation with Apple was recognized in 2022 in the form of recognition as a rescue app developer and allows us to access functions that are not accessible to a standard developer. This is particularly important in the field of "critical alerting" to ensure optimal function.

International use:

Our app also works across countries, which is particularly important for companies that operate across borders. A possible international rescue operation is secured worldwide via the International Assistance Group.

Multilingual:

The Uepaa app is available in English, German, French and Italian and thus optimally supports your employees in the application. Multilingualism is guaranteed throughout, right down to the alarm functions and rescue chain.

In an emergency, there should be no company boundaries. The first responder function of the Uepaa app identifies all users in the vicinity who can help - regardless of company affiliation. Over 120,000 users are already involved. Thus, you become part of an overarching first responder network instead of an isolated solution.

Why is the emergency call center so important?

The emergency call center relieves you both operationally and financially:

The 24h/7days operation of the Uepaa emergency call center allows you to concentrate on your actual daily business. 85% of false alarms are resolved via the emergency call center and can be closed. During the remaining 15%, we support you from the emergency call center with targeted intervention. All alarms are documented and traceable, which supports you in any operational safety audits or legal cases.

The disadvantages of the "Fire & Forget" solutions are striking:

Most inexpensive app-only solutions only send a technical alarm, usually in the form of an SMS, email or via interface. It is then up to you to ensure that the alarm processing is guaranteed 24h/7days a week and that the technology works error-free and system-redundant, just to meet the regulatory requirements. Uepaa frees you from these tasks, which should not be underestimated in terms of effort and infrastructure. As a company, you thus fulfill your legal duty of care and can prove this.

Why is the Safety Dashboard so valuable?

The central control tool - for the benefit of your employees:

We're sure you care about the well-being of your employees. That's exactly why you've come to the right place, because the Safety Dashboard gives you insight into the correct use of the Uepaa app.

Without violating the privacy of the employees, you receive all relevant information. This information is prepared on a monthly basis and made available as a usage report. Incorrectly configured apps, faulty usage or so-called "no-shows" are a thing of the past - for the benefit of your employees.

Transparency creates trust and promotes usage:

Even if the Uepaa app disappears into employees' pockets after the rollout, its use remains visible via the Safety Dashboard. We see a real "usage explosion" wherever the usage statistics are regularly shared and discussed with the employees. For you as the person in charge, everything is prepared to conduct a factual best practice exchange and to make corrections if necessary - your employees will become true Uepaa App professionals.

What is the cost of protection with Uepaa?

The question of all questions - with us definitely not too much. Organizational measures - such as additional wage costs or lost productivity during protection - exceed the annual Uepaa costs many times over, even with just a few deployments. False alarms as a result of inadequate, exclusively app-based solutions cause a lot of expense.

Uepaa AG is a digital full-service provider who, in addition to the app warranty and the 24/7 operation of the Uepaa emergency call center, also monitors and accompanies the daily operation of the app in your company - thus relieving your own financial and human resources to the maximum and supporting you in your daily business.

The flexible subscription concept allows you to use your resources optimally and adapt to changing situations. We are deliberately not a "cheap app" or a "cheap alarm server", but offer secure, efficient protection.

As an example: The "all-round carefree" equipment for a team of 5 employees starts from CHF 2'000.- per year, for additional licenses we are talking about 249.- per license/year - including remote training, 365/24 standby of the emergency call center, support and technical warranty.

Isn't the Apple Watch or Rega app enough?

Emergency call apps are designed for private use:

The Rega app, representative of a large number of very valuable hiking and alpine rescue apps, was not developed in accordance with the legal requirements placed on a solo emergency call system. Processing of alarms, qualification of false alarms, escalation according to company protocol and possible terrestrial intervention cannot be covered by a private user app.

> see the recommendation on the Rega website.

The Apple Watch's fall detection is for private use:

The same applies to the Apple Watch as to the emergency call app. The fall detection on the wrist works very precisely. But the emergency passport and the connection to local rescue partners is intended for private use. Even just practical aspects, for example internal company escalation or access to the company premises, cannot be covered with this solution.

How quickly can Uepaa cover us?

Here we can be brief: If it has to be fast, within 24 hours.

Data protection and warranty

Is the data processing under EU law?

Yes - Uepaa AG's server landscape is located in Europe and Switzerland. Most of the data processing runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers. We only use storage, servers and services located in Ireland for this purpose. No data is processed outside the EU or Switzerland.

Does Uepaa comply with the GDPR?

Yes - All services used for this purpose (such as AWS, Google) are certified according to the relevant GDPR data protection standards. No personal data, such as location, can be viewed while using the app. Even in the event of an alarm, location data older than six hours is not made accessible.

Who sees the location data of our employees?

We take the guarantee of privacy very seriously. As a matter of principle, the employer has no access to employees' location data. Location information is only shared with the employer and blue light in the event of active escalation.

Will personal data be transferred abroad?

In the event of an alert from abroad, it is possible that personal data will have to be transferred to third countries in the case of repatriation missions, in which there is no level of data protection comparable with Swiss data protection legislation. However, this only involves data that is necessary to locate and rescue the person involved in the accident.

Will the data be deleted from Uepaa on a rolling basis?

Yes - All data is removed from our systems on a rolling basis. We are a rescue service provider with a mission that is updated on a daily basis. This means that location data older than six hours has no relevance for the rescue chain and is hidden again. Usage and metadata, both for your usage reports or for our first level support, we keep for 2 months. After that, this data is worthless for our application and is deleted on a rolling basis.
